observer
Seems George Gallaway got the Labour vote in Bradford - or was it the Muslim vote?!
harry hayes
I feel uneasy about it. Happy days

observer
Thought it was a question, not a suggestion?!
harry hayes
Don't know if this relates to Obs question. The words are from a song by 'the man in a velvet suit' in the 1920's. Wake up, John Bull. What's the matter with you? Why don't you close your open doors, the same as they do on foreign shores, Don't leave it too late John, Till you've found out their worth, Or someday you'll find yourself, Pushed right off this earth. Happy days.
observer
Very prophetic! If "the Bradford Spring" takes off, perhaps we can expect further examples of various "groups" in society, voting in their direct self interests; which should make it difficult for the main Parties trying to be all things to all men, and delivering to none! Lt Kije
Was it the Muslim vote Obs?
asperity
It could have been the "fed up with the usual rubbish, lets vote for the only viable alternative" vote or, perhaps the more usual "constituency with a large immigrant population" postal (ahem) vote
Evil Sid
Perhaps it was the pied piper effect of his flute that did it. Er That was James Gallway that played the flute wasn't it . George Gallaway was the one who was the chicken in big brother.
Lt Kije
This is what you wanted Obs isn't it, people coming away from the establishment parties, Or has it back fired on you as the party that got in are for immigration, you were hoping for a more right wing winner. Oh dear
observer
Not really - any exodus from the main "centre" parties, will eventually move in both directions. btw: I think George is opposed to EU membership and our wars abroad, so both ends against the middle on that one! Lt Kije
I have never been a fan of Geoge, how ironic though you get what you want, but it's a shift in the wrong direction
observer
Yet another naive assumption on your part: IE that all ethnic minorities share a common interest. There are religious differences for a start, plus the fact that having got on the life boat, many immigrants don't want anymore getting on board and capsizing it. As I said, when and IF the centre collaspes, folk will gravitate to both extremes.

wahl
shows that the mail, political parties are totally useless liars and incompetents and that more voters will vote for a change unless the cowbays at the top actually do what they promised before the election. observer
When have they ever done what the majority of folk want? A bunch of professional political careerists, totally absorbed in trivial party point scoring in the ivory tower of Westminister and totally divorced from the general aspirations of the majority of people. Problem is, even with isolated examples like Bradford, enough sheep still flock to their support at election time.
Lt Kije
People flock to them at election times as some of the other parties seem a little extreme! Hence Mr Griffin of the BNP, has been trying to make his party look a little less extreme, but most people see though it. A Neanderthal in a suit is still a Neanderthal. observer
Is that the best you can do Kije? Just name call - no reference to policies? Well Griffin and Co are more in tune with the majority on several issues, which the main parties totally ignore IE: Getting out of the EU,getting out of the ECHR, getting out of Afghanistan and cutting immigration. Lt Kije
Sorry Obs most people unlike yourself see them for what they are. They appeal to people who for the most part are uneducated, The people you take delight in calling on other threads on here. People who like to blame immigrants for taking jobs they would not do anyway or could not do as they have no education. The people who depend on government support. It's a shame you cannot see! Peter T
The valid point stated is that the main parties "ignore" grass roots. IF the majority wanted to stay in Europe they would have a referendum.
