Observer II
Well BoJo and Co, have put the grand re-opening back two weeks, while they see how the latest spike goes. Why don't they just write off the rest of the Summer and keep lock down until there's absolutely no doubt things are safe ?      😷

What you claim may happen but it hasn't yet according to the BBC, Sky and Number 10 Downing Street, PHE and the Dept. of Health.

Observer II
I think we can safely say that HMG will fold in respect of all those whining for a hug or holiday; and the transmission rate will rocket, in time for a Winter lockdown - AGAIN.     😷

Observer II
Think you need to get out Asp - latest polling puts 65% of public on side of caution on lockdown release.  Which confirms the idea that they've been ahead of BoJo and his Party hacks on this, for some time.   😷  Meanwhile, we've got folk like Tony Blair believing a two standard approach, could mean the release of restrictions on vaccinated folk, ignoring the fact that vaccinated folk can still catch and spread the virus, even though it may not kill them.  Hancock now saying the Indian variant is 40% more transmittable. 25% of elderly blacks still avoiding vaccination, and large numbers of third world nations with low vaccination cover.  So not over by any means - and time BoJo curbed his cavalier approach.  😷
asperity
You stay hiding behind your settee being guided by "opinion polls 🙄" Obs. Bill
I think your right with the public opinion thing Obs but I’m not so sure that a two-week delay would make much difference as the numbers will almost certainly increase either way. But even if things get delayed, the numbers seem low enough to ease off on some of the more extreme measures such as public toilets (including in stores), restrictions on certain roads and silly rules at the local tips.  Bill 😊

asperity
It depends on what leading questions the pollsters ask in order to get the result they want. At a time when the British public has been brainwashed for over 12 months with infomercials cautioning against meeting people, going outdoors, wearing masks, washing hands etc etc, and otherwise infantilised it can't be difficult to find a majority saying "yes" when asked if they are worried about rules being relaxed. If they went deeper into it they would find that they want the rules relaxed for themselves but not for other people!

Davy51
If this covid19 has many varieties & mutations ,just like the common cold which will never go away, we could end up living with science led restrictions for a very long time. Latchford Locks
It's not stopping a lot of folk making holiday plans. I looked online at Llandudno hotels and most were booked up ... zero vacancies for the summer season Good news for hotel owners and other local amenities. But a shame some folk will miss out on a break after this horrid period we have been through
Observer II
Eventually they will get majority global coverage with vaccines, there maybe a weakening in new variants, most folk will retain new safety habits - so it will end eventually, but not yet.  If we save having another surge over Autumn and Winter, we may escape further restrictions - but not yet.  Meanwhile, we have a Gov that is smitten with indecision, and incapable of employing draconian responses to situations - be it safeguarding our borders against illegal entry or entry by infected folk. A Gov that's thrown the people of N/Ireland under a bus, by not reneging on the N/I protocol, which will eventually lead to the loss of part of the UK.  They have the electoral power, but are too week or indecisive to use it.   😠  😷
Bill
The chance of this latest Indian variant mutating again into something much worse is slim but can’t be completely ruled out so it’s in everyone’s best interest to try and keep the numbers as low as possible to minimize the chance of this happening. It’s widely accepted now that the primary method of transmission virus is on the breath, so it makes sense to at least keep the indoor masks rules, especially as most people have got used to wearing them. But all the stuff like only so many at a wedding or funeral should be done away with as you generally only get married or die once in a lifetime, but you might go to a crowded pub or football match every week.  Bill 😊
