wolfie
Apparantly it's playing to packed audiences down south and empty cinemas up north. With cinemas in Yorkshire being picketed by miners wives.
P J
...as it's unsuitable for miners Nick, you tell it far more correctly than Asperity did a month ago.

harry hayes
On holiday in Blackpool next week so will be forced?to go to the cinema. Won't be to see that film though. Reviews read like an insult to a great (living) prime minister. All the sniping in the world won't change the view of history on her terms in office. Happy days

wolfie
And on those who were part of it. As for giving her a state funeral when she dies, all I can say is 'why wait'
Nick Tessla
Seems Maggie has no remorse about events - as she now can't remember anything! A depressingly large number of tory supporters seem to have the same problem. Not seen the film (I may bother to once it's on DVD) but I've seen a number of articles that say that the politics isn't a big part of the film - it's more of a personal rather than political story - whatever next ? - maybe Adolf - The Movie : the story of how an impoverished painter overcame his background- abusive childhood and being injured in World War I to become leader of Germany, but no mention of the whole holocaust and world war thing. Just a downer man!
Peter T
You die-hard party supporters really amuse me. Name one decent Prime Minister since the war.
wolfie
In 2010, the University of Leeds and Woodnewton Associates carried out a survey of 106 academics who specialised in British politics and/or British history since 1945 and came up with the result that Clement Attlee was the best PM. observer
Which in terms of sustainable legacies, is probably correct. Even Churchill, although the man of the hour in WW2, had a particularly unsavoury reputation with the working class prior to that, and suffered the consequences in the post war election. Pretty sad when you consider how long ago that was. Anything to do with the fact that they no longer have life experience before becoming MP's? observer
Think it had something to do with them having convictions too?!
harry hayes
The labour government after the war had a dream - and to an extent it came true, because the mood of the country was with them, after the thirties experience. Now, even the populace don't seem to have a dream and the conviction politicians are few and far between. Happy days
observer
So very true H; the dream kids have nowadays is to win X-factor or win the lottery etc!
sadako
I watched this film this evening. I really enjoyed it. It does focus more on her life but touches on some of the politics and choices she made. I'd recommend it.
observer
Watched a few Meryl Streep films since hearing about it; and must say, she's a great actress imo.
Cleopatra
Say what you will about the woman, and dislike her has much as I do, but looking back, Maggie Thatcher must rate as the strongest PM in post WWII years. So strong and determined was she that Killer Blair attempted to emulate her with the Iraq war (remember the Falkland war when Maggie emerged triumphant and smelling of roses?). However, it all went wrong for Killer Blair and he emerged dripping with blood and smelling of shit! Killer was more successful at emulating the idiosycrasies of HRH Charles, Prince of Wales, when giving his speeches to the public, or anybody for that matter, showing obvious signs of illusions of grandeur and an ambition to be as a 'royal'. I take it your not a Tony Blair fan Cleo. I agree with most things you have just said. I must watch this film as I have heard plenty of good reviews. I also secretly claim to be a little of a MT fan.
