Observer II
After four years of Remoaner doom and gloom, with some still at it, Boris realises he has a strong hand and is prepared to play it. Seems Nissan are moving their operation into the UK, ready for any tariff war, as their cars will become cheaper in the UK.
asperity
It was good to hear Boris come out with some optomistic rhetoric and talk up the opportunities available to us free of the millstone that is the EU.

Milky
I still don't get why people think tariffs are bad for the UK, the UK would gain more in tariffs as they import more then export so the government could give grants or tax relief to the companies effected and still have a surplus in revenue???? Evil Sid
read today that the eu cannot agree a budget after losing the75 billion we contributed. Quote A summit of EU leaders seeking to fill a €75bn hole in the bloc’s budget left by Brexit dramatically collapsed after Angela Merkel led major contributors in rejecting a proposal that would have left them paying billions more. The meeting in Brussels was brought to an abrupt end on Friday evening with the leaders deeply divided, leaving the European council president, Charles Michel, to admit: “We need more time.” The UK’s departure has left EU states struggling to fund plans over the next seven years to tackle the climate emergency, aid poorer regions and continue to subsidise farmers through the common agricultural policy. quote from the guardian website (not the warrington one by the way)
Davy51
It just shows how we were regarded as a soft touch by these burghers.
asperity
They could save a lot by admitting that the "climate emergency" is myth.
Observer II
The reason the EU has lasted to-date, is because net contributors were subsidising net receivers, the UK being one of the biggest contributors. Now Germany and France will have to pay more or the rest get less; and as the whole attraction for membership by poorer members are the financial handouts; their support for the project will evaporate.

The French went an increase in EU spending and has called on Germany to come up with most of its, while Austria, Germany, Sweden and Denmark have called for cuts and a cap on spending. Meanwhile Ireland who is much richer now then it had been is objecting to any cuts in money from the EU budget.it receives Poland who too is now much richer and has a GDP greater then net contributors like DEnmark, Finland and Austria has demanded more from the EU budget especially for its farmers. PS Ireland is the 4 richest country in the EU according to GDP per capita

Observer II
Just hope Boris sticks to his guns and makes sure the EU no longer fish in our waters. Perhaps a Naval expansion is required to guard our fishing grounds and at the same time turn round illegal immigrants.
