observer
See they're giving out knighthoods for riding a bike - could it be "Sir Rod" next?!
Cleopatra
I did nominate him for a knighthood.
algy
Don't get me going, there are hospitals with doctors and surgeons saving peoples lives who are more deserving of recognition rather than these so called celebrities, the whole honours system is nothing other than a corrupt and ridiculous system, I would scrap the whole Bloody system.
Cleopatra
After seeing the list of those awarded Algy, I can only agree with you. All a load of nonentities called celebrities. Methinks it's too easy to become a celebrity in this day and age.
Peter T
Wilson started the rot when he awarded the beatles all those years ago. Now it is done as a publicity gimmick to get the populace on board. A bit like letting a gymnast win Strictly. Dancer?? more like a puppet. inky pete
Wouldn't mind seeing Rod with a sword next to his neck myself!
Lt Kije
I don't agree with you Peter about Wilson, lots of civil servants have seem them as a right long before Wilson
Eagle
Â Sir Wiggo is a typical example of why the Honours List should be dumped. 1
Dizzy
It's not just Wiggo though, loads of the Olympic bods have got them. They were all recognised for their achievements by the medals they won so why do they need knighthoods and the likes too ?  It's all nonsense if you ask me and I agree with Algy and everything else that has already been said. Peter T
I don't agree with you Peter about Wilson, lots of civil servants have seem them as a right long before Wilson  So you award entertainment "before" services to country?
Cleopatra
With you there Peter. The awards should go to the people who have served the country in some magnanimous way or other. There are soldiers in Afghanistan and other countries who put their lives in real danger who are more deserving of the awards than some attention seeking so called celebrities who have won a medal for running and jumping in an arena for the glory of it. Evil Sid
It is a strange world where the only criteria for being famous is being famous
wolfie
 The only real requisite for fame is the ability to “get into the news and stay there” long enough to be able to gain a sense of familiarity with the public. Therefore, I would suggest that Jimmy Savile is more famous now than he was 30 years ago
observer
SIR Jimmy if you don't mind!

Lt Kije
Not at all Peter, but they should not be seen as a right for long service, aren't you suppose to do something out of the ordinary to get one. Lots of people stay in a job for years and will never get on. Long service in the civil service should not in its self be a gateway to a gong.
