observer
Will you be happy, as a taxpayer, to fund political parties? Whilst, it may be unhealthy for PPs to be beholding to a few rich doners; perhaps it would be easier to limit the spending by PPs, and save a few rain forests?! Evil Sid
nope they have never funded any of my parties
P J
at £3 a vote what better incentive to stay home and not bother, a victory for apathy I feel.

asperity
The thieving B's take enough money as it is without us giving them more. If they want party funding let them work for it I say

Rex Mac
£3.00 per vote!! you must be joking the X factor costs less and at least we can see the benefits in terms of Simon Cowells raised elevation, (fat wallet effect.) Politicians are basically self opinionated busy bodies who need to get out and find a proper job instead of scrounging off the rest of us. My advice for what it is worth is "Don't vote, it only encourages them."

observer
Well, we can already see the politicians minds ticking over on this one: the Tories/LibDums are already looking at cutting TU support from Labour; so it'll all boil down to Party interest before the public interest - again. If the local Labour shower's relationship with their party's union paymasters is repeated nationally, Ed Millibean will be begging on street corners for funds. Cleopatra
Let the ruddy (Dizzy note the restraint) labour party mps and councillors pay themselves with contributions from their ridiculously high pay and expenses claims. They can well afford it and if they can't then they are spending too much on elections.
Dizzy
Noted and well done Cleo ... and welcome to the mad forum Nick Tessia as for Ed Millibean... I like that
observer
"spending too much on elections" - so limit the amount they can spend - sorted!
asperity
The easiest way to limit the amount they spend is not to give them anything so they have to put their hands in their own pockets and not ours!
observer
The problem is Asp; that they don't put their hands in their own pockets, but cosy up to someone like Murdoch, who then pulls the strings - easiest to slap a limit on spending on them and give then the usual free TV spots. asperity
If we did fund the political parties, there would still be the danger of them cosying up to private paymasters on the quiet. Or do you imagine our politicians are too honest to do that? Give them nothing I say!
observer
Agree - give 'em nowt, but limit their spending at the same time.
