Is there a point to this?

I drove into town today and to my horror saw that someone had actually fly tipped on the small area of grass just outside the Parish Church.

Old settees and armchairs normally get dumped in quiet country lanes but fly tipping stuff like this so close to town centre makes me wonder if there?s someone?s trying to make a point?

Probably using their 'brains' in the knowledge that it will be removed by the council VERY quickly

Not condoning fly tipping by the way as I think it's disgusting but someone has large bulky items that they can't get rid of themselves at the tip etc (maybe no transport or big enough car) the only ither option is to ask the council to collect BUT THEY CHARGE if it's not white goods.

The cost is around ?20 although of you are on benefits you can have one free collection per financial year :?

PS you did well to drive through town today as I got completely stuck on Mersey Street due to a large procession of flag bearers heading in the direction of Sainsburys... what was that then any idea :?

Yep I was stuck in the same queue but didn?t see the procession. Maybe it was a human rights march about the right to fly tip in your own town.

I hear what your saying about the council but for someone to have dumped the stuff there, they would have to have had a van or something and the Woolston tip is only a short run down the road?

Wonder if the towns CCTV picked anything up?

From where I was stuck they seemed to have a police escort for road safety I guess and were carrying umbrellas (cos it was raining) and a lot of large yellow'ish floppy flags.

Harry like you say it coincided with the Wolves traffic as that's where we were trying to get too.

Good job we set off early as we were expecting to get stuck at bridge foot anyway as Wilson Pattern Street was closed again all this weekend and town was a complete nightmare last week for the same reason.

Anyway back to fly tipping... sorry Bill

Why would the person need a van to tip there as there are loads of houses within easy walking distance nearby. Would take a very strong person to carry settees and armchairs all the way to Woolston tip.

Saying that HOW MANY setees and chairs were there as after all you were the one that saw them not me and I am just guessing....

I know that vans are not allowed in all the tips without a waste licence of some sort so maybe efforts were made to take them the tip and they were refused access  Maybe the answer lies there

A friend of mine was turned away from all the local tips in his small van for the very same reason as VAN = TRADE apparently  despite it only containing normal household waste and scrap:?

They will be banning 4x4's next as you can fit twice as much in one of those with the seats down... and then there's people with trailers :lol::wink:

I was turned away from a local tip site because I was in a van a few years ago. The blokes argument was that I am in a van so I am tipping trade waste. I told him that it was from my own house and I am tipping it which I did. He said he would report me if he ever saw me again.

I got home and phoned Mersey Waste to make a complaint. I asked them at Mersey Watse if it would be better if I got the blokes council number at the tip. They said it would be usefull then they would know who to speak to when they phoned them up. I knew exactly what I was going to do.

I shot back to the tip, I couldn't get back there quick enough, and sure enough the scouse jobsworth came straight over to me. He started to look inside my van and take down my registration. I asked him what did he think he was doing, and he said you have got tools in your van so you are trade.

I said yep, I am a tradesman but that waste is from my house. Then I sprang it on him. I said, can I have your council number please? He refused to give it to me,.......... a mahoosive smile appeared on me face as I said, fine, no problem mate, then jumped in me van and drove off before the penny dropped with him on what he had just done (refused to give me his council number). He wasn't there the next time I went. And his skip rat mates don't bother me anymore either.

Anything that might be of any use to them gets smashed into a thousand pieces before I take it to the tip in future. stitch that.

Gateworth tip by any chance Wingy... there was a horrible 'scouse' jobsworth there when me and my dad went there drop off an old fridge and freezer. Talk about being rude and a complete jobsworth and we only asked him to open the barrier as our bike rack made us too tall to get under the barrier..... never been back there since as I wanted to punch his lights out run him over to rid the world of such beings.. (not very ladylike I know  ) but my dad wouldn't let me

On contast though all the chaps at Stockton Heath tip are always very friendly and extremely helpfull although sadly they too have to follow the silly WBC rules about people driving vans

Sorry Dis, it was in fact S/Heath. It wasn't the man in a van rule that rattled me cage. It was being told by a scouser what I can and can't do in MY town where I was born and live. The thing is Dis, if you have any goodies on board your van, they leave you alone. There isn't a closed season on these skip rats as far as I am concerned. :)

Guess your main problem is that you don't like scousers telling you what to do then Wingy :oops::wink:

You do suprise me though as the chaps at SH are always really nice and sooooo friendly, chatty and helpfull whenever I go :D

.....or maybe they are just scared of very dirty women in big'ish' cars :wink:

A few years ago I took some garden rubbish and a container of old engine oil down to one local tip.

While I was unloading the rubbish one of the denizens of the site spotted the oil and very helpfully took it away for me, I was less impressed when 5 minutes later I saw him pouring the filthy stuff all over a pile of metal junk at the back of the site.

"That will keep the gypsies off my scrap!" he shouted.

I've never trusted skip rats since...
