I note the lady in this article says family law is out-of-step with modern family life. She has put the cart before the horse here - surely it is modern family life that is out of the step with the law!

And while it might be the more difficult course to take, shouldn't we be changing modern family life rather than the law

We have a society that changes laws to suit lifestyles, rather than folk adapting lifestyles that operate within the law. Fair enough, a wedding with all the extras costs a bomb - but a simple register offic ceremony doesn't - and we wouldn't have the ludicrous situation of half a dozen illegitimate off-spring as brides maids.

a new "law" to protect "co-habitees"?(ww news) :? Simple answer to those concerned about legal protection - GET MARRIED!:wink:

But why shouldn't two people who have chosen to live together , have jobs, have individual or joint bank accounts, probably a joint mortgage blah blah blah and possibly kids not get the same protection as those who have chosen to share the same surname via a bit of paper :?

And here's me thinking that you believed in the traditions of yesteryear when we had a society that respected the standards of our forefathers.
