Jerry
ChrisG -- I agree The Departed is an interesting film -- and I hope you'll view the original Chinese version called Infernal Affairs in this country. Â This week I happened to re-watch Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven on cable. I had never seen the first part of Seven Samurai and it was astonishing how much was lifted directly from that script -- one of the seven splitting tree branches for his dinner, one of the seven following the others/not allowed to join, one of the seven a well dressed young man eager to become a warrior/meeting a pretty girl in the village. Even the number of bandits was the same - 30. 7 against 30. Â The idea of Yul Brynner as a gunfighter had flummoxed me before, but in Seven Samurai the leader shaves his head at the beginning and in Magnificent an old friend accuses Brynner of - "still having that CAJUN accent!" I assume we all know CAJUNS are a peculiar version of French Canadians transplanted into New Orleans and Louisiana a few centuries ago. Jerry
Yes, my grandson is an admirer of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I disapprove of its message, but enjoyed watching the antics and first noticed the tall character actor Jeffrey Jones in that film as the principal/truant officer. Jerry
Yes, wild parties are commonplace here. Remember, though, every baby that is born is a barbarian, and civilization is very, very thin veneer. Â Hmmm. The Glenn Miller story (though the "plot" is largely garbage and almost totally inaccurate) is just - perfect for me.
