observer
Seems we'll all get the opportunity to vote for a Police Commisioner in November - will anyone be bovvered?
Cleopatra
I would be dubious about people voting for a Police Commissioner. Just look at all the asses you voted into parliament!
harry hayes
If the commissioner is given the power to act, then I'm all for it. Hate that it would be a nominal appointment which I fear would be the case. Happy days
Lt Kije
Will the commissioners be career Police Men or Career polititions ?
inky pete
Once they get to a certain level within the organisation it's impossible to tell the difference.

observer
Like Local Councils, they will merely be a fire wall between the local public and the Gov, to take any and all blame for failiures. Like the current faceless Police Committees, I doubt they will have any operational imput over Home Office dictats; and will be left between a rock (providing adequate policing, with diminished staff) and a hard place (setting a precept to be paid by a cash stapped public). So perhaps a lose - lose kind of job.
Nick Tessla
First question to ask any candidate (particuarly if there are any independent candidates without a party machine to back them) is "Who are the people/organisations funding your campaign and what do they expect from you should you get elected?" observer
Perhaps the Murdochs will put a few candidates up?!
