algy
The attendance at the Cenotaph this year appeared to be far greater than in the past few years, not sure if it was due to the present situation in Afghanistan or because it was a mild dry November day. asperity
Hey Cleo, it's not like you to be so shy at saying what you think! Let it all out

Bill
I don’t think the attendance had anything to do with Afghanistan or the mild weather but by the massive amount of media build up that’s been going on for the last few weeks. I was only thinking the other day why there’d been so much press build up this year and was it some kind of significant event / year. Wireboy
Good to see. Hopefully the event will continue to get bigger each and every year. And Cleo, I couldn't agree more.
Lt Kije
Completely agree with Cleo and Wireboy, I hope it is even bigger next year, they deserve it.
observer
Maybe Bliar came to show his remorse at sending hundreds of young men to die in his wars - Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. Yes Asp, not a medal between them AND never worn a uniform.
Lt Kije
Are you saying to be PM you have to have served in the armed services?
observer
Think some all round experience of life contributes to one's wisdom; these career politicians havn't seen anything outside Uni prior to entering Parliament; except perhaps John Major, did he, or was it his Dad, worked in a circus; appropriate training for Parliament I guess! Lt Kije
I agree, experience of life would be a good thing, but not necissarilly the armed forces
observer
It helps though, before a PM get's his hands on his boy's toys.
Wireboy
Are you saying to be PM you have to have served in the armed services? Not necessarily. But a Defence Secretary with Armed forces experience would be preferred but not essential. In my opinion.
Cleopatra
A Defence Secretary didn't need experiece in Killer Blair's time - he just did what Killer Blair told him to do!
Teessidewire
The crowds appeared to be up everywhere. In Stockton-on-Tees, where I live now, there was a huge crowd. I was also in London on the 10th and 11th for the opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster and for Armistice Day itself and the crowds were very big. On Friday the 11th November we were slightly late getting to the Cenotaph and we acknowledged the 2 minutes silence at Victoria Station. Absolutely everyone stood still and observed the full 2 minutes. I got to the Cenotaph for 11.10am and couldn't get near it as there were still masses of people around.
