Will it make any difference?

Thought we'd got rid of the Nanny State at the last election - but it seems it's still with us. The Gov are talking of removing fag packets from display in shops and even having them in plain wrappers. Any kid will go into a shop to buy fags cos s/he's a nicotine addict NOT cos they're on display - just where are these screwball ideas coming from? If they want to ban them - just do it, and stop faffing about.

Another U-turn. The CONservatives voted against this proposal when in opposition.:roll:

They probably found that they had no choice as long as we're in the EUSSR:

We are ruled by Brussels, the toy Parliament in Westminster can only rubber stamp what the Commisars decree :roll::roll:

Putting tobacco under the counter comes from the UK government, not the EU :!::!::!:

The point I'm making is that these measures are pre-empting the probable directives which the EUSSR is considering i.e. plain packaging with just warnings and information, and a ban on shop displays. Vending machines are banned in a lot of EUSSR countries and this is another proposal our masters in Brussels are considering. Watch this space.

If it was going to stop youngsters from starting to smoke I would agree with it, but most will be copying parents or friends! :?

I agree with you SL. people don't impulse buy tobacco products, most people start (as I did) because of family and friends smoking not because of advertising on racing cars or shop displays.:wink:

What gets me is this niggling and constant pecking around the issue by these health facists. If they had the b*lls to introduce an outright ban on the sale and distribution of fags, I might have some respect for them. As it is, all they are doing is creating (legal) "forbidden fruit" for kids to consume as an act of rebellion.
