kevofaz25
Has anyone else noticed that each crossing of the Mersey now has a shiny new road sign advising "River Mersey". What a waste of money
observer
Perhaps it's in case we get some major flooding, so folk know where the River supposed to be!
tonymailman2
It's just to make sure that everyone knows where the best place is to throw all the councillors
harry hayes
Sorry to be boring but I think it is a good idea. Whenever I'm on holiday or passing through a place, if I see a body of water, I like to know what it is. All rivers are a hark back to geography lessons in school. Happy days
Peter T
Fair enough, but how many people are able or want to pass through Warrington especially with all the gridlocks and traffic lights. Can we really afford these fancy signs? How many bags of salt do they equate to?
observer
How many pot holes could it fill?
Dizzy
How much are signs I agree with Harry though as I always like to read a sign telling me which river it is that I'm passing

robot
Its actually not too bad an idea. Not everyone has a Satnav, and need visual signs for navigation- unless its made legal for drivers to read maps while driving! Dont forget we have the Manchester Ship Canal and the Sankey Canal near Warrington, the Irwell isnt far away, and to someone unfamiliar to the area one stretch of water looks very much like another. However there is a time and a place for spending on such things. Keep these signs where theyre needed- on the major routes.
observer
But even with a River name, would it mean anything to someone with a limited knowledge of geography?
