observer
With the country grinding to a halt and no respite in the weather till next year - what are your suggestions to keep Britain moving? Seems the Gov are attempting to take matters seriously - by talking about heating the third rail and now they,ve added an hour to HGV permitted driving hours, which should make a major impact on snow bound HGV deliveries! Steve the Original
Adding an hour to the HGV drivers workload really will help..not... Stupid ideas from shineybums... Steve
observer
That's what I thought Ste; a serious approach might be to crew the wagons with two or three drivers, wouldn't this allow them to increase the hours of operating the vehicle? Mary
How about just slowing down??
observer
Ermm no Mary; they've got to deliver things to the shops, otherwise folk will run out of food.
asperity
That's what I thought Ste; a serious approach might be to crew the wagons with two or three drivers, wouldn't this allow them to increase the hours of operating the vehicle? Great plan Obs. Small problem, where are all the extra drivers coming from? In my job we are told that if we are over our permitted hours (98 hours a week!!!!!!) we should anchor the ship until we are all rested. Problem is that even at anchor someone has to be on watch therefore problem will not go away. Still as Steve so succinctly puts it the shineybums haven't got a clue! Dizzy
Shineybums Never heard that one before Like already said its too little too late. After last years total chaos and all the subsequent studies, brainstorming sessions, feasibility reports blah blah blah it appears that they actually learnt NOTHING Saying that Labour were in control then so even IF some solutions to the problem WERE actually drawn up at the time the CONDEM lot will be ignoring them and will not proceed to implement them. Has to be 'their' idea and no-one elses Bloody brainless idiots the lot of them
Sue Durnim
Here?s a weird idea?..... How about sending up a million hot air balloons, with large heaters to melt the snow to rain, also make the balloons touch each other, this will act as a large cover/umbrella to stop most of the snow from falling, that won?t work I hear you say, because they aren?t enough balloons, it?s the only idea I have and see it as blue sky thinking? And no I have not been drinking or taking drugs, not yet anyway!
Evil Sid
ahh but if you have that many balloons you would not see the sky, blue or otherwise
Sue Durnim
ahh but if you have that many balloons you would not see the sky, blue or otherwise Evil Sid, that's the idea, to stop the snow from falling and the glow from the burners will be bright enough to cast some light? Sue Durnim
I have got another brain wave, this may not seem as believable as my first idea? Tell all the drug crazed junkies that every snow flake they collect in their hands, they will get a reward of 50p from the town hall reception, that will soon clear all the snow from the paths and roads? observer
Nah, that would involve "work"!
Evil Sid
now here's a thought. why not install underground heating on all stretches of major roads. this could be powered by solar panels or wind turbines. clean renewable energy put to good use to keep the country running in the most extreme weathers. also any excess power generated during the summer months could be put into the national grid to drive down the cost of electricity. set up several waterwheels on various rivers and you could generate more for when the sun don't shine and the wind don't blow. as for prisons and such maybe the wheel could be re introduced. give the prisoners exercise and produce more energy for the system. Evil Sid
oh well there is still the water wheels and prisoners wheel to consider
Dizzy
The solution may have been found... well for the smaller roads anyway. Evil Sid
now i wonder who came up with that bright idea and i wonder if he got a bonus for it. it certainly was not the person who put it to the government as the idea was aired some weeks back on the wirral. observer
Notice in Scotland they've had the Army clearing the snow; meanwhile there's 80,000 prisoners sat on their backsides in our prison system.
Dizzy
Obs surely you aren't seriously suggesting that prisoners should clear the roads of ice and snow How many of them do you think would hop back on the prison bus at the end of the day, how many might hitch a ride from 'someone' else and how many do you think would simply get lost in the snowy conditions
observer
The Army could be used to guard them, and anyone slinking off could be shot - which would have the bonus effect of relieving pressure on our prison system and saving a few bob!
Dizzy
So the army stand around and 'guard' while the prisoners do the shoveling... ..... Mmmmm sounds about right though as most little jobs take two men... one trying half heartidly to do it, one watching or 'advising' then a woman comes along and just does it without making a huge song and dance out of it
