asperity Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 Not quite a dress rehearsal for the final last night as neither side was at full strength, but nevertheless a strong 56-6 victory for the Wire was impressive. Quote
Latchford Locks Posted August 11, 2018 Report Posted August 11, 2018 Good win ...But.. The atmosphere was more like a morgue than rugby stadium.. The empty away end meets your eye as you take your seat and straight away the Buzz drains from you. Imagine if Catalan/Toulouse/Toronto and London were in Super League ??? Doesn't bare contemplating. Yet that is the plan. Quote
asperity Posted August 11, 2018 Author Report Posted August 11, 2018 I believe London have a fair following but I take your point about the others, although to be fair to Catalan their fans would have been over for the semi-finals last Sunday and to do the journey 2 weeks running is a bit of an ask. Evil Sid Posted August 12, 2018 Report Posted August 12, 2018 Having watched the catalans home games their fans do not seem to be very vocal at the best of times. Round of applause for a try seems to be the norm there with the odd voice singing some rather odd chant. (sounds like the French version of yellow submarine). toulouse team made a good fist of their match with some very innovative passes which made for an exciting game. will always be a struggle for non english clubs to get fans to away matches in numbers particularly when games are so close together like in the super eights and qualifiers. Hopefully warrington will not have been lulled into a false sense of security with their win come the final. Quote
Gary Posted August 15, 2018 Report Posted August 15, 2018 One of my frustrations of the modern game with this obsession of expansion outside the traditional areas which never generate huge support and cause travel problems and added expense. We have a hot bed of rugby league in Cumbria and yet no real effort to get a Cumbrian Super League outfit. A Cumbrian franchise would attract a huge following and help fill stadiums - as well as providing a realistic afternoon out for visiting supporters. Loved a trip to the Lake District and a couple of pints in a local pub pre-match. 1 Quote

Gary Posted August 30, 2018 Report Posted August 30, 2018 Thank you kind sir - now we have had Catalans win the Challenge Cup looks like the focus will continue outside the heartlands. Apparently 5 million watched the game in France - doesn't put bums on seats here though! The game is in complete turmoil and something needs to be done fast as clubs can't survive with half empty stadiums. Quote
