Where have all the ex-pats gone?

Recommended Posts

We used to have a very strong presence form over seas - have they been killed off by staying in touch via social media?

Jean posted last week and Stallard did too :D  No idea where everyone else vanished too.

We never did find out what happened to Cleo and why she suddenly went though :(

I wish all the old members would come back and start posting again and that current posters would post more too all used to all have some good chats, rants and errm the odd heated disagreements (which I must say I used to rather enjoy)

When I first posted the majority of topics were about old Warrington, quizzes and nostalgia - remember Harry?  Then somehow the personal attacks took over and civility disappeared, I personally think that it was all started about five years ago by an obnoxious poster, who I believed had previously been banned by another forum precisely for that attitude - I may be wrong.  Since then the posters slowly evolved into a handful who seem to enjoy confrontation and trading insults, some serious and some in jest.  Lately that phase seems to have lost its shine and now Gary is left as the leading poster.

In the spirit of the 'old Forum', what do you think about the rugby played now and the game as it was for Bath, Bevan and Palin etc., is it better now ?  Why is 'feeding' now allowed at the scrum - Sergeant Major Clay must be turning in his grave!   In fact, given the feeding, why have a scrum?

When exactly did the game of soccer change to using a beach ball and do the players still use 'dubbin' on their fancy boots?

Summed it up quite nicely there Stallard. Actually without Dizzy the forum would fall apart.

I have to admit I have neglectedd the forum a bit myself due to running numerous twitter and facebook media platforms which are important to drive traffic to the main site :(

My good wife is having knee replacement surgery tomorrow, so I'll be at the hospital for a couple of days and then wearing my nurse's uniform for a while  - hope the skirt still fits.  Will check back when the dust settles.

What an obnoxious post that was Stallard! - you're certainly not above making personal attacks yourself are you? (Just without the b**** to be forthright).

Whatever the reason the others have stopped posting, I doubt it's because they couldn't 'hack it' in the debates. Cleo was more a firecracker than a shrinking violet! I suspect there would be some reason she isn't posting - hope she is OK.

If there was a specific reason people have drifted away I would say it has more to do with the fact that it's almost impossible to get a decent debate going now. McBain and Peter used to give a well informed contribution and the discussions didn't just disintegrate into trivia. Be nice if they all re-appeared.

er dizzy second reply.

Cannot say that I totally disagree with young stallard. You only have to go back a few weeks to see how many of the topics ended up banging on about immigration to be followed by pointless tit for tat sniping between posters.

Still now that election fever has finally died down who knows what topics may rear their heads.

And as Gary has said social media such as faceache and twit head seem to be the easy option for keeping in touch with the old homeland these days. They may look in to the news pages to keep up with current events and read the forum to see if anything interesting to them could benefit from their input and if not then go away and see what the sister in law is up to today on faceache.

It's no use us all complaining about how quiet the forum is or the reasons why it may or may not have gone that way.

At the end of the day there's only us the members (past who may still be looking in, present or future) who can make it more interesting by posting new topics, engaging in current ones or 'whatever'.

If none of us bother then it's only our own faults if we become a tad bored.

Right starter for 10....who's going to start a quiz then as like Stallard said they used to be fun (no questions about immigration though please)

Maybe WBC could help us out by dropping a right clanger with something, always popular topics when they do that

Oh and maybe Peter T would like to grace us with his presence again...after all he is supposed to be a moderator.  Perhaps he'll come back if we all start slagging him off

Well the reason I haven't been posting is, at 74years of age I have a p/t job, I have a neighbour who lives in Holland, and owns property locally and needed somebody to look after it, so I took up the challenge. Keeps me busy and out of trouble.(my excuse). So what about the rest of you, come on fess up.

Know the feeling Jean.

my days have freed up a bit since my dog passed away two weeks back but still have a busier life than when i was workng.

my current job is not so much part time as when somebody needs me to work, often at very short notice. Being a passenger Assistant ( that means that i work for about an hour and a half in a morning and about the same in the afternoon during the scool run.mrs sid always says i am an escort which ca get me some very odd looks not mention interesting questions from some of her lady friends)

Ttag onto that going round to make sure my mum is still alive and get her up and make her  a brew every day, not to mention sychronising the diary so that i know what days and times her appointments at various clinics during the coming month and i wionder how i ever get time to sit down at home let alone find time to post on here.

still as you say keeps you out of mischief.

Great to hear from you Jean - hope all is well in Canada - I have some distant cousins out there - so any one with the name Skentelbery is probably related to me :)

I lost my dog Duffy and he was 17 last year, I'd love to have another one, but at my age it would be awkward, I have three cats that keeps me busy, but cats aren't very responsive like a dog is.
