harry hayes Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Seems to me that at a local level we need good men (and girls) to act for Warrington rather than parties. Happy days 1 Quote
Bazj Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 been saying the same for years Harry. Paul Kenndedy was an active member of the forum until he was told not to be by the political masters. It is akin to censorship Quote
observer Posted May 4, 2012 Report Posted May 4, 2012 Didn't Paul stand as an Independent candidate first? Quote
Lt Kije Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 If you stand as an independent, who pays for the leaflets that have to be printed and another advertising? And do you not need activists to go out and post them. I think it is alot harder for an independent, as they have no party machine behind them. Quote
Bazj Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 but beinging national politics into local government serves no purpose at all. They all bicker and back bite about stuff which doesn't help to grit our roads or clean the streets.... National politics is for the government and the opposition to play, not Mike Hannon or the other lot in the Town Hall Quote
observer Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 You could of course opt for an elected Mayor and cut the number of Councillors at the same time - believe the UK has more polititicians per capita than most other Countries! Quote
inky pete Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Could also just abolish local councils altogether and recognise the fact that they no longer serve any real purpose. All of the decision making is made by faceless, unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats anyway. Quote

Perhaps the alter ego of obs could advise us of the problems standing as an Independent? Quote
Bazj Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 I think Paul was a tad more successful even as an independant than some though Peter!! Quote
Peter T Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Think Paul can tell you that - doh! Sadly, Paul doesn't post any more hence my question to one who knows. Quote
Lt Kije Posted May 5, 2012 Report Posted May 5, 2012 Thanks Baz, And a good picture Was he an inderpenant, or did he try with a party?? Quote
Cleopatra Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 He tried the Mad Hatter's tea party but when they saw him coming, "No room!" They cried. Quote
observer Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 Which rather answers the original question! Quote
Bazj Posted May 6, 2012 Report Posted May 6, 2012 Maybe Obs will come clean and tell you all about it Kije!! Quote

I have just been re-elected as an Independent Councillor for the Lymm Ward of Lymm Parish Council. I can confirm that I had to fund and print my leaflets myself and call in a few favours to help get them delivered. My legs are still aching from delivering hundreds of them. well worth the effort though 1 Quote
