boris1066
Jacobs traffic surveyors today carried out a survey in Old Hall, Westbrook. They were counting vehicles going in/out of a residential area. It wasn't a through road ,simply one road in and out. Surveyors didn't know who requested the survey DfT or WBC ?? In light of the resurrection of the 20 mph campaign suspicion was aroused !! Any one else noticed ongoing traffic surveys going on in their area ? Rex Mac
Hi Boris, Are we talking about Jacobs oil & Gas or Jacobs Crackers? Either you have an abundance of reserves under Westbrook of oil/gas or cream crackers. Come on Boris, what are you hiding there. If it is the latter I'll take mine with a spot of cheease if you don't mind
boris1066
Jacobs also do a nice line in sulphur recovery. They also have a transportation/traffic engineering divion focusing on urban planing. A team of traffic watchers were in action today on Sankey Way (A57). They could be providing info for the DfT but it's more likely for WBC. Does the forum have a mole in the Transportation Dept; who might tell us if in fact the surveys are anything to do with rolling out the blanket 20mph speed limit across the town. Dizzy
Ring the council or Jacobs and ask and if you don't get an answer do it under a FOI request. Maybe the council forum poster(s) called WBCouncil could find out and report back on here like they have recently done with other forum issues. They may be able to advise but may not have spotted your topic yet. They could just be doing normal and routine traffic stats to look for problem areas with reduced flow of traffic or checking to make sure where they have made changes it is working. fugtifino
Don't know a jot about this, but there seems to be a lot of interest in the subject if the number of views per post is anything to go by.
Evil Sid
perhaps it is the traffic planning department heads keeping an eye on the topic just in case we manage to come up with a good idea that they can implement and then say "aren't we clever look what we have come up with" and so justify their jobs. WBCouncil
Hello all. We've looked into Boris' question and can tell you the following: For Old Hall, we have no knowledge of any WBC commissioned traffic surveys in this area. It's possible that a developer has commissioned Jacobs to undertake some survey work for them but we have no way of confirming this. However, we can say that on this occasion, it's not us. There is a count underway on the A57 Sankey Way that we're aware of. It's a count being done by a company called Sky High on behalf of the Department for Transport (DfT). This is as part of their annual traffic surveys and apparently they're going to be counting at Dundee Close today and at other locations on various dates over the next month. There's more information on the DfT website at http://www.dft.gov.uk/matrix/estimates.aspx and as it's the DfT which owns this data, you can email roadtraff.stats@dft.gsi.gov.uk if you want to find out more. Hope this is helpful....

Bill
I saw the bloke on the day in question standing at the junction of Cromwell Avenue and Cannons Road. Hi-visibility jacket with clipboard and counter. Didn’t think anything of it to be honest. Bill
