All in it together?

Aside from the tax system still not touching the super rich; still no grip on the banking system, with futures speculators forcing up food prices etc; a BBC survey has revealed a stark North - South divide in the provision of LA care services. Councils north of a line from Bristol to the Wash, are being forced to cut these services by 5%; whilst those south of this line appear to enjoying a 3% increase. So, whilst in principle austerity is required to balance the books - "in the National interest" - it seems that the performance todate owes more to ideology than fiscal prudence.

Are you suggesting that Tory supporting areas are spending more on care than Labour supporting areas Obs? No, sorry, I've been up for 26 hours so must be delusional :?:?:?:?

I wonder why that is? Nothing to do with 13 years of Gordon inspired Labournomics I suppose??:roll::roll::roll:

Heard on Radio Manchester this morning that the North West spends ? 65 million doling out Methadone to Heroin addicts and that one in six recovers. the rest top up the Methadone with Heroin to give them a proper fix.

Something wrong somewhere.

apparently there are 619,000 millionaires in the UK.

In order to satisfy the bloodlust for monetary vengence from the likes of Obs and Wolfie; how much money would you take off each of them in order to satisfy the lefty desire to tax the rich?

Would it raise enough to wipe out the deficit and what would you do when it sort of comes up a few hundred billion short to clear Liebours debts??

Much better to take it from the middle and lower classes eh Baz. Then cut police, defence, NHS, education, social care et al. Better than punishing them that got us here in the first place, especially if they fund and run your party.

The problem is that they aren't actually cutting anything, spending and taxes are going up just as if there wasn't a crisis :roll:

If you take a million pounds off every millionaire it still leaves quite a few billion to find.... take two million off every millionaire and it still leaves quite a few billion to find....take three million off every millionaire and they will all bugger off and then you are back to square one.

No one is saying take it off the lower classes PJ, the problem is there is just too much to take off everyone; such was the state of the mess the country is in.....

There is no easy fix unfortunately, but trying to just blame the bankers and take it off a few thousand rich people wont solve the problems will it?

Strange you raise this Baz, as there was a prog on TV specifically about it. No doubt you'll believe it to be "lefty" propoganda, but the combined wealth of "the rich" in this Country (that's the 10% who own/control 90% of it), could pay off the deficit ten times over - problem solved. Meanwhile, you carry on supporting Laurel and Hardy; who have spent ?100million on trying to bomb Gadaffi to bits todate; have ring fenced spending on overseas aid, are increasing our diplomats throughout the world, have let the bankers off the hook; whilst closing elderly care facilities, sure start centres, charging for Uni, making soldiers and policmen redundant etc etc etc.

Very clever PJnottoosurewheremyhouseis, but if you want to be force fed untruths where else to go than the newspapers? Why not, instead, look at the country's accounts which show that government spending is increasing year on year, in excess of inflation, and taxation is rising. We are being robbed blind by our so called leaders but you, and your ilk, are helping them by playing the old game of class politics. The truth is that it doesn't matter who you vote for, the government always gets elected. It's time to get rid of the two party system and the two parties that benefit by it and get our country back. Have a thunk on that.:wink:

So Asperity, all the different cuts are made up and not a single serviceman, copper, nurse, teacher, civil servant or street cleaner is going to lose their job? Its all a myth perpetuated by every single media outlet in the country. Right. You do realise that cuts to services and increased borrowing can coexist.

For the record I know exactly where my house is, WBC seem to have less of an idea though.

Did I say that nobody is losing their job? No. What I did say was that government is still spending like there was no tomorrow and increasing taxation. The problem is that they are not spending the money on protecting jobs and services in this country but giving it away to the EUSSR and third world dictators, and paying for ill advised military operations in foreign countries. I am in no way trying to support the present government which is carrying on the legacy of the previous one in much the same way.:shock:

No, I mean we are giving money to the EUSSR to help prop up the Euro of which we aren't even a member. I hope you aren't insinuating that Ireland is a Third World country with a dictator as head of state PJ :shock::shock:

The Irish, along with the rest (bar the Frogs and Krauts), have been propped up by us anyway - they were getting Regional Development Aid for a while, until the E/Europeans came in with their begging bowls; and the Celtic Tiger was built on shifting sand; that has now sunk.
