Bill
18months ago I told Virgin media to buzz off with their whopping price increases especially as they'd messed up and lost my long held and cherished landline number. In the end and after a load of arguing, they offered me TV, broadband, phone line and a mobile sim for £35 which was the same price as I was paying before. Today they told me that that contract was due to end and the price was going to jump up to £68.30. ☹ I rang them again and told them that there’s no way I can afford that and what’s more I don’t even have a landline phone or a Virgin media TV box and all I actually want is minimal broadband and the mobile. Cutting a long story short, I ended up with a new 18 month contract for £36. Result! 😊 Bill 😊
Evil Sid
can't understand how they manage it. my current everything package, apart from mobile was due to go up by £7.00. i ummed an dahed a bit and lo and behold i was given a top of the range broadband plus all the tv including films and sky sports and netflix and the landline at a lower price than i was paying. they keep mithering me to get the mobile contract which believe it or not would drop my bill even further. however it is not worth me having a monthly contract for my mobile as i never really use it. put £10.00 on it two months ago and still have over £7.00 credit left on it. Bill
I think what you have to watch out for Sid is getting drawn into believing that mega broadband contracts are something you need. They make it sound fantastic but unless you have a large family with everyone doing on-line gaming, or you’ve got several 4K HD TVs all running at the same time you’re not going to notice any difference whatsoever. For quite a few years I had a 20meg download speed (on a good day) and never had problems downloading my porn while the wife watched her HD films on Netflix. 😊 Bill 😊
ninearches
What puzzles me about these companies is that they seem to be able to increase prices even above what has been agreed & you can never get hold of anybody to complain. We have gone to Freesat & with all the i players we find plenty to watch.
Evil Sid
what gets me about virgin is that my broadband package is currently being advertised for £27 per month for 18 months. it only applies to new customers though, existing customers have to jump through hoops to get a reduction. I have been with my current provider since they fitted cable in our street, it was NTL back then so must have been with them for almost thirty years. Bill
I’m the same Sid. I’ve been on cable since day one but customer loyalty counts for nothing these days. I had a long chat with retentions guy and he explained that it’s a computer algorithm that determines what he can offer and that depended on what packages were previously used. However, he said that by dropping the unused TV and phone line, I could keep the price almost the same and then next year, the algorithm will work differently and probably offer me a better price. At the end of the day, I haven’t really given anything up and I’m only paying £1 extra which isn’t too bad. Bill 😊
