observer
Seems the latest ONS report says that Rumanian and Bulgarian migration to the UK has increased by 76% over the last two years. Of the half a million or so immigrants, 20% are economically inactive. Didn't someone warn us of this ?
asperity
That can't be right, all the reliable news sources (the BBC, the Grauniad etc) assure us that without the immigrants the whole infrastructure of the country will collapse. That compares favourably with the overall UK figure which is in the mid 20s. Less than 3% of these are registered unemployed, the overall UK figure is around 5.5%. Maybe not as scroungey as the natives eh?
observer
But that's the whole point - the natives are native and can't be deported, these migrants clearly aren't. Economically inactive means 20% are not contributing taxes (probably more actually, as they may not earn enough to pay tax); while they are all consumers of public services - NHS, Education etc. Over 3million EU migrants here and an estimated million illegal non-EU migrants that are not even on the authorities radar - an utter shambles.
Confused52
Well the story isn't quite as simple as it was presented, from Sky "Just 4% of those of working age were thought to be unemployed, 5% were inactive due to study and the 12% were "otherwise economically inactive". observer
So, 21% not paying taxes then, and let's not forget those in our prisons.

Which, as I suggested, is a little bit better than what us little Englanders are doing. I'm forgetting though, economics don't cut any ice do they, it's all about the ideology. observer
Errm, the clue is in the term "little Englanders", although I'd prefer British; as opposed to Poles, Romanians, Bulgarians etc. If migrants are net contributors to the State fine, if not, they are milking us and should return home. That's economics.
Davy51
The system needs reform if possible. We need to get as many as possible of our 16 hour a week plus benefits people back into full time hours of work & the companies that are relying on the cheap labour of these immigrants need to get real by getting some Brits back into work on proper contracts for proper wages. Every unnecessary benefit paid out is a drain on the prosperity & resources of this country & any immigrants who are not benefitting the UK should be got rid of tout de suite. Time to get these hangers on out of the UK & let the benificent EU look after its own under its socialist umbrella as our negotiators tell them what to do with their "deal" . observer
Not even sure there is a "system" to reform Dave. The chief of the UKBF reported to Parliament an estimated million "illegal" immigrants in the UK, that are off the authorities radar. However, even when they do get contact, in cases were they've been picked up for criminal activity or survived a fire in a block of flats; there is no automatic and immediate deportation, due to the interventions of HR lawyers and bleeding heart politicians. As for employment; our lazy employers, incl the NHS, prefer to get their skills "off the shelf" from abroad, rather than train our indigenous youngsters. The Gov are complicit in this, when they fail to provide bursuries for training nurses, there needs to be a massive investment in meaningfull vocational education and training, to provide our own indigenous workforce. For those youngsters that struggle to get out of bed, no job = no money, and see how long the bank of Mom and Dad lasts.

observer
Seems the head of the UKBF has admitted to over 100,000 failed asylum seekers absconding and disappearing off their radar; not just a UK problem, similar situation in Germany. Perhaps they could check out the hand car washes or taxi industries. And now with Brexit, the NHS are claiming there are less EU nurses coming here, so they've started recruiting in India. Don't these third world Countries need nurses ? What's up with training our own ?
