observer
Seems someone has "discovered" that birds fly in "V" formation, providing more aerodynamic efficiency. Hang on a minute, haven't Air Forces been doing this since WW1?
Davy51
I think may be birds started the practise !
Evil Sid
And there was me thinking it was because the one at the front had the sat nav. silly me
algy
I think may be birds started the practise ! Perhaps the birds saw the aircraft doing and thought Wow!! thats a good idea. I always thought that with birds it was a work sharing exercise wherebye the leading bird moves inside and the second one takes it's place and so on. Dizzy
I knew it was something to do with saving energy and aerodynamic sharing as I saw a programme on the tv (or was it the internet?) over a year ago. Clever little buggers eh and such a shame they are not all scientists and inventors
observer
Yes, but some bird brains have put this "discovery" all over the internet/media, as if it was news.
Davy51
I saw a flock (?) of geese flying over Newton about half an hour ago Obs ,in a generally north west direction. I wonder if the vee is to get the slower birds to the front so none get left behind.
observer
Not sure, but I'll take a gander and see !
RingoDave
Always tricky with a number of geese, but the "official" terms are; flock of geese, gaggle of geese , wedge of geese (flying in a 'V') , skein of geese (in flight). I don't know why there are so many.
