algy
Kingsway, the old lock at the end of the now defunct and filled in canal now known as black bear linear park. Knowledgeable guess Cleo but not correct.
Cleopatra
Flippertyflopping heck! I could have sworn it was!
Bill
No but Wire boy could well be. If it is the New Cut, they only demolished the lock keepers cottage about ten years ago. My guess might be the Sankey canal just before Burtonwood. What we're looking at might be a bridge rather than a lock. Bill
Cleopatra
I'll take a stab at the Sankey/St Helen's canal at Sankey Bridges.
algy
Woolston Lock. New Cut Canal. Now forms part of Wier lane. Correct Wireboy! here's the original complete with sign, I had to remove that for obvious reasons.
Grappenhall Guy
I used to live in Wier lane Martinscroft for many years, actually there is a road named after the family,as Bill said the cottage was derelict until about ten years ago looks totally different now. I was down there yesterday watching the salmon jumping at the new weir, saw five or the same one five times, whilst I was there a guy who works for environment agency checking the salmon trap in the fish ladder,he told me only about half as many fish had returned to the river this year, thought it could be down to water quality. Wireboy
It looks a lot better then than it does now. I would like to see New Cut canal re-opened.
