GRAPPENHALL Cricket Club are set to play host to one of the most star-studded line-ups ever seen on a Warrington cricket pitch when they celebrate their 130th anniversary in August.

Organised by former England star Neil Fairbrother, the club will host a Legends XI against a Grappenhall Select XI in a Twenty/20 match on August 30th, starting at 4pm.

In a jaw-dropping line-up, the Legends XI is set to include Andrew Flintoff, Michael Vaughan, David Lloyd, Michael Atherton, Graham Hick, John Crawley, Warren Hegg, Philip DeFreitas, Dean Headley, Gladstone Small and Ronald Irani.

Set to play against this list of England greats is the Grappenhall Select XI, which will include Fairbrother himself as well as Muttiah Muralitharan –fresh from his World Cup Final appearance against India– and Wasim Akram, one of the best fast bowlers in the history of cricket.

The match is a bid to help the club continue to to be a part of the Warrington community and as such it is important to Fairbrother and the club that the event is well supported by local people.

He said: “We want the local community to get involved and it would be great to see the ground full of Warrington people.

“In the last three years we have been helping to keep the club vibrant and we want to keep it moving forward.”

Tickets for the match go on sale to club members on Friday, April 15 and on general sale on Monday, April 25, available from the club on 263497.
