observer
Should a Boss, like the Editor of a newspaper for example, know what his workforce are up to?
Dizzy
Probably should know but as in all walk of life and jobs you can never be sure what anyone else is actually doing. Think it's called 'human nature'
Evil Sid
they should know in general what their employees are up to but when you have a lot of employees working on different projects it is almost impossible to know what they are up to in detail unless something about their particular project is flagged up as a problem and warrants closer scrutiny. Peter T
Rules and guidelines should suffice, and the source should always be questioned. I thought they had very regular meetings to discuss the stories to be printed. So if he was hands on, he should know.
Bazj
I would hazzard a guess that if most employers really knew what some of their workers got up to during working hours; there would be a lot more unemployed people! We once had a situation where we had a contract in Manchester which had 5 teams in 5 vans working in different parts of the city..... we found out that every day, all of the lads were driving all across the city to meet up for dinner and then driving back to site afterwards.....taking about a 2 hour lunch. Now I'm sure the resident leftys on here would argue it was their right to have lunch and socialise; but it isn't very good for productivity! algy
Should a Boss, like the Editor of a newspaper for example, know what his workforce are up to? That's what part of the reponsibilities of managers & supervisors are held accountable for, and if they don't then you have chosen the wrong people for the job
observer
There are several issues arising out of the N.o.t.W "alleged" phone tapping saga:- 1) Is it likely, that an Editor wouldn't be aware of how information had been sourced? 2) If illegal practises are condoned as a legitimate practise by the Murdoch press, doesn't that call into question their application for a virtual monopoly with Sky TV - and will the Tory Gov allow it? 3) And why have the Police appeared so laxed in investigating this matter - are they "at it" too? 4) It also calls into question the PMs judgement in employing someone who is under a cloud of suspicion. However. perhaps more alarming is the reported reasoning behind the inclusion of Andy Coulson as a PMs advisor: IE. that he brought a connect with "ordinary people" into the PMs entourage. So are they saying, that No 10 is so full of Toffs and millionaires, that they are estranged from the aspirations and suffering of the rest of us? That would explain a lot, about what they are curently doing!

Peter T
If they were rubbish, ok. But you would have got their attention and kept them until you could find replacements.
observer
Seems the practise of phone hacking runs wider than one newspaper!
Lt Kije
I think a lot of Papers have been doing it for years Obs, some are just a bit more careful on how they use the info
observer
Could it be the case - that the police know about the press doing it, but cos the press know about the police doing it - they can't bubble each other?!
