observer Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Seems the boffins have produced a viral resistant chicken, that won't pass on bird flu, next they hope to do the same with pigs. SO, if they can genetically modify these creatures, why not go all the way and do it to humans? OR are they dabbling with something that they have no idea of the possible consequences? Quote
Evil Sid Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 i'll wait until they cross the pig with the chicken Quote
algy Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 What will they call it? a pigin or a chig, tell you what Sid it'll need a hell of a wingspan and run up for take off. you'd need a good brolley if a flock passed overhead. Quote

Dizzy Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Getting back to the original question though ... it does worry me when scientists start dabbling with genetics as who know what the consequences could be years down the line ...... but then I suppose if they had never dabbled in anything we wouldn't have the medicines etc to treat current day illnesses or indeed the to have virtually eradicated the diseases and illnesses that used wipe out thousands of people that we rarely hear of these days. Yet another tricky discussion from Obs Quote
observer Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 My querie was: that if viral resistance can be generically provided to animals, then why not humans? Indeed, many genetic diseases could be eradicated altogether presumably - however, it would no doubt require conception in a test tube! Quote
Lt Kije Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 The trouble with messing with genes is they mutate Quote
Dizzy Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 And we could finish up with with a new life form or even worse a bacterium called Kijerver Quote
observer Posted January 14, 2011 Author Report Posted January 14, 2011 Thought we already had genetic mutations - try the Town Centre on a Friday night! Quote
Lt Kije Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I think you have Bazal ganglia disease Quote
