Lt Kije
Yep I think they just made themselves unelectable
harry hayes
Nope. They will get back in at the next election. The public have short memories and while this government will probably put our finances back on even keel, they will probably be unpopular. Labour will then be spendthrifts as has happened before. Happy days
kevofaz25
Any alternatives suggested so far? Give the lad a chance to make his own mistakes.
observer
Right on Harry - it's surreal, the fact that Labour will walk into Government at the next Election, having been the architects of the current disaster. The reason - we have a fickle electorate, who may accept the neccessity of the present coalition cleaning up the debt, but won't thank them for the pain. As for Millipede et al: a bunch of no marks straight out of Uni into politics - so I guess Ed was the best of a bad bunch - sad!
Bazj
Millipede is a lefty.... in the pocket of the unions who backed him. The electorate will vote him in at their peril because the unions will want their payback
observer
Come off it Baz; these are career politicians, prepared to blend in with any political background, to get on - the days of conviction politicians probably ended with Maggie. By the time of the next election, the electorate will be so p**d off with austerity, that they'd vote in Che Guevara if he promised 'em a good time! Mind you, we could be in for a repeat of the Brown v Bliar fratricide, as, in politics, ambition is thicker than blood!
Lt Kije
The electorate will vote him in at their peril because the unions will want their payback I agree, the unions will want to go back to the dad old days, I will measure him on how he deals with the unions
observer
BUT, he won't be "dealing" with "the Unions" until he's PM; until then, he'll be playing to each and every lobby group who feel the pain of the cuts - probably pointing to the affluent, who are not sharing the pain. Those who suffer unemployment, benefit cuts, loss of public services etc; won't remember who caused the mess; just who is causing them the pain - human nature is rather fickle and unforgiving. wolfie
Yep I think they just made themselves unelectable So that's Labour unelectable and the Lib Dems unelectable. What's the point of holding an election??
Lt Kije
We will have to hope that Ed, comes out from behind the skirts of the unions, which I think will be a tall order.
observer
Think it might be preferable to have him up the skirts of the Unions, rather than the City Bankers like Bliar!

Bazj
That was nearly 20 years ago..... time to blame someone else methinks..... Hmmmm who has been screwing this country up for the past 13 years I wonder???

observer
I'm afraid in this era of spin and "I want it now" politics; the careerists have taken over and opportunism has superceded wisdom as the hallmark of a good politician - it's probably true, that we get what we vote for, and thus deserve the consequences. observer
Be interesting to see if David Millipede does "put the Party" above personal ambition, and actually quits politics altogether. He must know, that even if he remains loyal to brother Ed, he will become a centre for intrigue and opposition - thus we'll have Bliar V Brown part II. observer
If we have another battle of egos at the top of the Labour Party, they will be unelectable; despite folk wanting rid of the ConDems by next election.
