Bill
Does anyone seriously believe the argument that MP’s need to have second jobs in order to appreciate working life outside of Westminster? It might make a bit of sense if teenagers like Greta were running the country, but most MPs tend to be middle age and should by then already have a fair understanding of how life works. Observer II
Just what kind of "jobs" are they talking about ? I'll bet none that would be termed "working class", blue collar, more likely straight out of woke Uni and in as an MP's researcher. Just an excuse to get their hands on more money, as if 80Kpa wasn't enough. 😠

Bill 😊 Well you would thinks so, but Taking one at random, in this case Lisa Nandy, what do you find (from Wikipedia): Parrs Wood High School, Manchester/ Holy Cross College , Bury; Degree in Politics at Newcastle; Masters degree in public policy at Birkbeck College, Univ of London.; researcher for Labour MP for Walthamstow; Researcher for Centrpoint homelesness charity; senior policy advisor on young refugees at The Childrens Society at the same time being a councillor on Hammersmith and Fulham council. Then MP for Wigan on an all women short list. This is pretty much the CV of a career politician. Lisa is in a safe seat but if not the average MP will only get 5-10 years before they are voted out. So they need something to fall back on and career politicians generally have nothing but contacts in the party that just lost power so it is necessary to develop links outside Government and Politics. This as why there are so many lawyers since they can slip back to being in their former profession quite quickly.
Observer II
Well it's clear that Parliament is a nest of corrupt, self centred, s/hawks. Seems Labour has been allegedly accepting cash donations via a mystery donner, with links to eco-protesters. Time these stables were cleaned out. 😠
