Rockcutting
Hello everybody, I am sure that there are lots of street names that don't actually mean anything in terms of local history but I am fascinated by the name of the cul-de-sac that I am living in at the moment which is Grice Street in Stockton Heath. The word sounds (to me) like an amalgamation of Grey and Ice, neither of which seem particularly appealing at the moment but it is also called a "street" when it is actually a cul-de-sac. As the old saying goes "If you want something doing ask a busy forum" so any answers about this would be very much appreciated !
Evil Sid
Could well be named after somebody called grice, a quick google reveals quite a few hits of people with that name. It may also have been a street many many years ago and then with developement turned into a cul de sac. One for the old maps i think. Davy51
I used to live in a cul-de-sac that was called an avenue once if that helps.
