observer
Interesting prog tonight about food hygene, which covered the importation of foods into this country. What was surprising was the amount of food that was being smuggled in, in suitcases through customs. Seems the UKBF have sniffer dogs to ID food in baggage, and spot the illegal importation of meat or dairy produce.
Cleopatra
Serves anyone right if they get caught smuggling illegal foodstuffs into the country. Passengers are advised on board just prior to landing what food is illegal to take in and any passenger carrying such food in their luggage should get rid of it before going through customs. Evil Sid
but surely it would be better to tell them before they board the plane. telling them just before landing seems a bit pointless. where are they going to get rid of any illegal foodstuff on a plane, apart from the obvious that is. observer
I think it's standing policy in most countries Sid; and applies to food, animal and plant importation. I'm pleased to see the UKBF are at least attempting to do their job in this regard.
Cleopatra
There's a long walk from the alighting point to the customs with many a bin, and usually toilets in between as well as bins around the luggage collection point. Plenty of scope to get rid. Each time I have flown there has always been an area of unclaimed luggage in the luggage collection area. One wonders how anyone can forget to claim their luggage at the end of a flight. Just a thought - maybe some of them contained illegal foodstuffs and the passengers chose to abandon them after the warning aboard plane. Perhaps they are expected to eat it , Sid.
Evil Sid
Given what I have been told about food served on flights it would be an improvement
Cleopatra
If you want a good meal on a flight, fly Doha Airlines. the best airline by far.
