Cleopatra
Anyone ever eaten an indian meal? A lot of you I suspect, but, did you use a fork or your fingers, which is the tradional way Indians eat. Sure thing you ate with a fork. Why, then, does it seem that everyone who has a chinese meal eats with the obligatory chopsticks instead of a fork like it is most essential to do so? It's puzzled me for a long time. inky pete
Most Indian curries are quite dry in consistency. Scooping them up with a bit of naan bread and fingers is easy. British curries have a lot more sauce, and can't really be eaten with the fingers.
Cleopatra
And nobody is saying that british curries should be eaten using the fingers, indeed one did say that when people eat indian food in the uk they do not use their fingers but use a fork. inky pete
My point was that Chinese food in the UK is pretty authentically Chinese, so authentic eating methods are both possible and appropriate. Most Indian food in the UK is an Anglicised version of authentic Indian dishes and differs from the originals in ways that make traditional Indian eating methods inappropriate.
