Oh dear - here we go, Geography again - Great Britain is the largest island in the British Isles consisting of the mainlands of England, Wales and Scotland. The Isle of Man is not joined to it (hence the isle bit).

Now we've got that out of the way, yes they do pay for a TV licence, however I am still of the opinion that the award should be restrictded to UK citizens.

My remarks about tax exiles was not aimed at any particular individual.

I see, so after stating that you didn't thik Manxmen should be included, you then went on to post that neither should tax exiles. As none of the nominees are tax exiles, it's probably fair to assume you mistook Cavendish for a tax exile, being as he is a "manxman".

Would have been easy to hold your hands up there, but no.

As for restriciting to UK citizens, you'll find that while Cav's passport will have IoM on it, it is still the same British Isles passport you or I would have, just issued by the IoM passport office rather than a mainland one. I fail to see what possible reason there is to stop any British person from being eligible for this (absolutely useless) award.

Fatshaft - what were you doing over there? - I've spent a total of only 6 months there mainly in the home town of the other great Manx man Connor Cummings. It's a great place full of eccentrics - the Manx way is certainly different and often refreshing whilst also fiercely independent and yet friendly. It is simply a place of contrasts and variety where everyone knows eveyone else business and history.

But getting back to Cav - here has been such an incredible inspiration to the mini Manx - they have a conveyor belt of budding champion cyclists in the making who converge at the National Stadium during the week. Both him and Connor are National two wheeled icons and righlty so.

I was the casino manager Geoff. Lived up in Farmhill, outskirts of Douglas. Lovely place to live.
