observer
Seems top retail CEOs are complaining about the quality of school leavers applying for jobs, saying many can't even master the 3 Rs. Presumably, these will be the 50% of school leavers that don't qualify for Uni, not even for a Mickey Mouse course, that no one talks about? What a sad indictment on 12 years of New Labour meddling and dumbing down of a precious resource.
harry hayes
Every one knows that is true, but nobody in government will admit it. Forgive the almost pun, but the schools secretary, Ed Balls talks a load of, er rubbish on the subject saying standards have improved. That's much worse than being economical with the truth. Happy days
observer
It's not unusual for those with a dogmatic social agenda, to remain in denial when their theory fails in practise. State micro-management from the centre, especially when based on a flawed theory of equality, which merely results in mediocracy, is counter progressive. Evil Sid
standards have probably improved. but it depends on where you set the benchmark for the standard. the lower the benchmark the greater the improvement that the standards set are now lower than they were even five years ago is just a way of trying to get a positive out of a negative
wolfie
While schools are prioritising sex education for 5 year olds, drugs awareness, information on gay sex and domestic violence prevention then the basics of reading and writing will become of secondary importance. observer
And the sad coincidence is that half the time violence usually occurs when one is incapable of articulting one's feelings!
