Lt Kije
With the new allegations in the Sunday Times about Libya and oil and the freeing of the terrorist, will Britain pursue America over compensation for IRA victims as much of the IRA money came from there, or should a line be drawn under it. Rifles
The government will pursue America over compensation for IRA victims just as much as we will Libya...... Never As for where do we draw the line well im not sure to be honest do we draw the line at the top or the bottom of the list and include rock stars , film stars and the man in the street ? observer
...... and the Yanks could sue us for burning the White House in 1812! Grief is private, but some egos can't resist washing their personal tradegies in public for ever, no amount of money can bring back the dead - just draw a line under it and move on - life's too short. Lt Kije
Is it then right to persue Libya but not America
observer
Vengence and retribution are building blocks for continued emnity and war; peace requires the drawing of a line under the past and the pragmatism to move on - this isn't justice, but we live in an unjust world. Lt Kije
In my opinion we must pursue everybody or nobody, you can not go after Libya without going after America and anyone else that gave arms or money to the IRA, That clearly is not going to happen so a line has to be drawn, and we go after nobody
observer
Unfortunately we live in an unjust world; where "justice" is sacrificed to the political expediency of the powerfull.
harry hayes
What about Checkoslovakia? And I think we are not above supplying arms. Make love, not war. Happy days
Bazj
I think you'll find the difference is that Libya as a country or state sponsored the terrorists whereas the America/IRA thing was a group of private individuals raising and collecting money for a cause they happened to believe in. The American government (as far as I know) never actually supported the IRA whereas Gadaffi and his mob did You could sue each and every individual that ever donated to the IRA cause in the states, but a lot easier to sue one whole country! observer
One has to laugh, at the critics of our Police training the Libyan Police. Well, if this improves the Libyan capability in blocking illegal immigration through their Country, I'm all for it. Mind you, our Police don't appear too good at stopping illegal immigration though.
