tonymaillman
You and the telly again ? have to say it should be quite interesting even though I won't be watching .......... coinciding with the exhibition at the British Museum
observer
Quite interesting: as we know Hadrian consolidated the Empire, setting defendable boundaries; and quelling internal rebellions (particularly by the Jews). Many of the notable buildings in Rome are down to him - eg: the Pantheon, largest domed structure until recent times. And he just happened to be gay - not sure whether he founded Brighton though! Paul Kennedy
Wonder whether with all that is going on politically it might become a major construction project.....again
tonymaillman
Didn't see it Obs, although I have to say that the programmes I've seen Dan Snow present on history are usually well worth watching 'proper historian who is enthusiastic' Â Hadrian is quite often never given the high profile and status he deserves in historical topics
observer
Dan and his Dad, did some great series on historical battles; lots of computer maps etc.
tonymaillman
Yeah I did actually watch some of those, they seem to be the only ones worth watching on tv when it comes to historical stuff
observer
Some historian drew some comparisons with the troublespots in the Roman Empire and those we currently have - and they're the same! NB. Hadrian withdrew from the occupation of Mesopotamia - current day Iraq!
