Observer II
Is living in our Town Centre streets, in a tent, a lifestyle choice ? I would think there may be a host of reasons why some people sleep rough, but I would suggest they generally come under the heading of mental disorders and inability to cope with the stresses of normal working life. Normally, one associates rough sleeping with cardboard shelters, but now many have upgraded to framed tents, which makes one wonder how they afford them, given their supposed destitution ? But as a society, do we want to see people sleeping in our Town Centre streets, what does that say about our society ? Shouldn't we ensure that such vagrancy is banned, and purpose built provision like shelters, made available for such folk, especially in Winter ? ninearches
I believe Ms Braverman intends to make the use of tents for rough sleeping illegal. She is hoping to persuade people to use night shelters instead.
Observer II
Just as long as there are adequate "night shelters", and generally adequate house building. Mind you, it would help if they began deported all the migrants we've got. 😠
Evil Sid
perhaps the tents were from the festivals that take place and given to the homeless as a temporary measure by a charity.
Observer II
Either way, the sight of folk sleeping rough in our delapidated Town Centres, is imo a badge of shame, and should be discouraged.
