DVLA Text

I received the following today:

DVLA:You are eligible to receive a vehicle tax refund.

Please submit your request via ukdriverf.inal-give-back.co.uk/vehicle14

Thank

It was sent from a mobile number. It's an obvious phishing attempt as Government Agencies don't send texts offering to give you money! Also their internet address would end in gov.uk . Please be aware that this sort of fraud attempt is becoming quite common.

I haven't been tempted to open the link and have deleted the text. I'll probably report it to Action Fraud.

odd that as i have just had to declare my bike sorn for a short while. was given the option of having  a text or email confirmation of that, actually opted for the email.

But if i had received that text i would not have given it much thought as i would have assumed it to be genuine at first glance as i would have been expecting some communication from the dvla.

Luckily i do not get many text messages apart from Mrs sid wanting to know where i am, five minutes after leaving the house and what time i will be home or my phone providers telling me that if i top up my phone by £5-£10 i will get 5 million free texts and tickets to the popes next heavy metal concert with a backstage all access pass.

In a similar vein i am still awaiting BT/Microsoft/ whomever's technical department to cut of my internet due to illegal activity on my ISP, something that they say will happen in 24-48 hours according to the weekly phone calls that i get "press one to be connected to an advisor press two to have your internet cut off"

If (and it's a big IF) the DVLA actually owed me money, I would expect them to send me a letter to that effect with a cheque attached, not to have to make a claim!

It must be my turn to be scammed this month because I've also received this email:

Can't help you there still waiting for the money from that Nigerian prince.

I usually send an email reply asking if they can send a cheque for £500 made out to bearer so that i can open a bank account as i don't currently have one. (hasn't worked yet but still hopeful.)

Had any number of variations on the theme of my husband/father/best mate has died and has x million in a bank account that they are willing to share. those usually get a email with a reply of sorry for your loss or my condolences.

the latest ones i get are from asda/morrisons/tesco/ bargain booze/ fred cafes with a fluorescent comic sans font saying that my coupons are ready for collection or some such. these just get deleted.
