Evil Sid
if the boat is sinking then i don't think you would worry too much how the lifeboat went into the water as long as you were on it and on the plus side it didn't sink. daft thing is i know people who would enjoy that experience and probably pay money to have a go. even if it did turn somersaults. asperity
I believe it was a test launch on a new ship and, yes Dizzy, there was at least one person on board but they would (should!!) have been strapped to their seats. My ship has the same launching system for the lifeboat but our launches are much less exciting!
Dizzy
Even being strapped in would scare the life out of me now I've seen what could happen but like Evils said though faced with a sinking ship and drowning I guess it's not so bad

Dizzy
Still looks a bit bumpy and what are they like in rough seas ?
algy
The drop and splash are almost imperceptible!, although I certainly would not volunteer for the exercise!.
Dizzy
I'd want a 3 point harness and a hard hat... and lots if padding and a sick bag It must hurt though especially for the one who has hold of the steering wheel
Lt Kije
Asp, when you test your life boats, is it the guy who gets the short straw gets strapped in? Ps Good video
algy
I would imagine seniority takes precedence in that situation, Oh! the joys of total responsibility1.
Dizzy
Silly question but are there life boats on HMS Royal Navy ships as I don't ever remember seeing any on them.
algy
I believe they use inflatable life rafts rather than lifeboats as they are compact easily stored and less likely to be damaged. This one is being launched by a Royal Netherland Navy submarine,
Dizzy
Ahh thanks Algy I never thought about inflatable ones and that makes sense re damage. I can stop worrying about my brother-in-law and his crew now..... well sort of anyway
algy
That's why sailors aren't allowed to take their pet hedgehogs to sea, Dizz
