I was down at Latchford locks yeterday talking to one of the ship canal men who were locking a heavy lift barge up the canal and he said that the new container berth at Barton is due to be commissioned this summer and that will result in a massive increase traffic flow on the canal, so be prepared to be bridged on a regular basis. As a matter of interest the man said he had worked on the locks for 34 years and the first night shift he worked they had twenty seven ships pass through Latchford locks, how times change.
