observer
Liam Fox may have been a p*lck, but the hysteria from the pack of hounds pursueing him, underlines the hypocracy of our political culture - MPs, who've just escaped justice over bogus expenses claims; the Press, who are still under investigation in the phone hacking inquiry. Would it not be more civilized to await the report from the Cabinet Secretary?
Peter T
obs. STOP talking common sense. This is Britain where there is a gullible public. It's a wonder his phone hasn't been tapped.
Lt Kije
It's never stopped you giving an opinion before Obs, why wait for the report
observer
I do have an opinion, but I prefer not to join the pack of hounds!
Bazj
Well the obvious has happened..... Fox has resigned. Now what about that loon Oliver Letwin dumping government papers in a bin on the common??? He must be next for the chop!!
harry hayes
Baying hounds comes to mind. Nearly everyone agrees he is a capable minister so why force him out? So, he made an error of judgement. Think he would be the last person to make another. MP's of all parties are hypocrites when it comes to acts by the opposition. Party points more important than the needs of the country. Happy days
Lt Kije
Sorry Harry I always had him as a prat, and far to Thatcherite!!!
asperity
I'll agree with the prat part LtKije, but Thatcherite? No, way too wet
Lt Kije
Your right Asp, I think he considered himself Thatcherite, but if he would have served in her cabinet, I don't thing he would have come out alive
harry hayes
Prat? Too many brainy people appear to be so. Think it goes with years of study and withdrawal from a rough and ready life. His ability as defence secretary seems to be recognised by the informed. And if he is indeed a Thatcherite, good for him.. As an aside,Margaret has had the blame for the great plague and every other mis-fortune we have had. Glad to see that mantle is now being taken over by Gordon Brown. Happy days
Lt Kije
Borden Brown was bad, but not comparable to Maggie, she was in a league of her own when it comes to being a plague on the world
Dizzy
I believe she was the only one brave enough to sit still during SAS full on practice raid with fire though. She asked to be in on it apparently. Her aide and bodyguards were said to have hit the deck immediately scared (allegidely) and she didn't even flinch and just sat there. I guess she knew if she didn't move they wouldn't have got away with accidentally shooting her though Tough lady though and made some bad mistakes but haven't they all... and they will continue too do so that's for sure
asperity
Your grasp of history is underwhelming LtKije
observer
Labour are demanding an independent inquiry, covering all Ministers - fine. But perhaps such an inquiry could cover the activities of ALL ministers for say the last 10 years - if the net is cast wide enough, they may catch more fish!
Lt Kije
Not at all Asp, I just know her for what she is "evil"
asperity
Now you're getting hysterically funny LtKije. If Maggie was evil there is no adjective strong enough to describe Gordon Brown
observer
Though a disagree with most of her convictions, Maggie did show how a PM can actually control the civil service and get her political will carried out.
Peter T
Perhaps she didn't watch the "Yes Minister" series and so didn't learn the rules.
Lt Kije
What a great question Asperity, I am not sure the English language has the right word in it, I will have a think, but you might have to wait till after the watershed, so their are no children watching
observer
Seem to recall that Whitehall was stuffed full of "political advisers" under Bliar and Brown, all being paid for by the tax-payer - perhaps Foxy wanted one that was privatised?! asperity
What a great question Asperity, I am not sure the English language has the right word in it, I will have a think, but you might have to wait till after the watershed, so their are no children watching I don't believe I actually posed a question LtKije. Possibly you need to brush up on the use of English grammer?  Clue: a QUESTION usually has a QUESTION MARK (?) after it. observer
Seems the Fox thinks he's escaped the hounds by resigning - but will he escape, now they've got the scent?!
