asperity
Is it a religious base, or are people using religion as a smoke screen to cover their real agenda?
wolfie
So I take it that the Hamas gunmen who used illegal tunnels from Gaza into Egypt to attack a border post killing 16 Egyptian soldiers are not murdering scum then?
Lt Kije
The International community have asked the Israelis to stop building on the occupied lands, the Israelis just ignore them. . Because the international community have failed the Palestinians and they cannot buy arms on the open market, what are they supposed to do when Israel ignores the International community, doing nothing just makes the situation worse., As Israel are just changing the reality on the ground building settlements and moving the Palestinians off. Ass has happened already in East Jerusalem.
Peter T
Aren't the Palestinians and Hamas two separate bodies?? As for getting arms, they seemed to manage ok with buying rockets.
Lt Kije
Home made Katyusha Rockets, WW2 vintage,Versus Abrams tanks. F16s supplied by the Americans, who by the way are suppost to be impartial

observer
Since when were the Yanks impartial on Israel - never heard of the Jewish lobby? Asp; the people who are using religion, are the zealots on both sides. The extreme right wing Jewish religious sects, are still building new homes on Palestinain lands, that they believe were promised to them by "God"! The Islamic fundementalists can always count on whipping up support, (made worse by the Arab Spring), with some anti-zionist sentiment. No doubt in the 30 year troubles in Ulster, not all Catholics supported the IRA, or Protestants the UVF; but when the these things kick off, generally the safer bet is with your own kind. This is then made worse by the deeds that occure - = "an eye for an eye etc".
Lt Kije
Why not give the Palastinians the same access to weopons as the Israelis, and then let them fight it out fairly, Short and bloody but it would be sorted. Asp you staill have offered nothing about the settlement biulding the sparked latest round off.
observer
What's "fairly" mean? The Israelis have an Army bigger than Germany and Britain combined, plus top of the range weapons from the Yanks, and finally "the bomb". But they arn't just fighting the Gaza Palestinians; this is a proxy war, funded by Iran and Arab States; they just havn't got round to building a bomb yet! asperity
I was talking to the pair of you. Strange that this is one subject you two agree on.
observer
Not quite; I'm trying to be impartial, Kije supports the Arabs. I have no time for any population that believes in religious nonesense from the far past.
asperity
Alright Obs I accept that you are critical of both sides but you still come across as slanting to the side of the anti Israelis. Â I have just noticed the youtube video that Cleo posted. Unfortunately it gives very little information about what caused this particular demonstration. If the Israelis were to demonstrate in this fashion every time a Hamas rocket exploded they wouldn't have time for anything else. Over 750 since the beginning of the year. Lt Kije
Still no comment on the settlements Asp? Â And the only problem I have with Israel is that of the ocupied lands, They should be back on their side of the internationally recognised border, which you know is not going to happen, as they have been biulding settlements, which is against the Inernational will, but they have been ignoring. So what are the Palastinians to do?
Cleopatra
Alright Obs I accept that you are critical of both sides but you still come across as slanting to the side of the anti Israelis. If the Israelis were to demonstrate in this fashion every time a Hamas rocket exploded they wouldn't have time for anything else. Over 750 since the beginning of the year. Â Then you have not watched it closely enough. The man's father clearly says that if his son had strayed across the border he could understand why he was shot but the fact is that he was on egyptian land when he was shot at and killed. You will not find many in Egypt with any sympathy for Israel, and that is not for no reason.
asperity
Sorry Cleo, but the information in that clip is very sparse and there is no indication of where, when and by whom this guy was killed. It may be front page news in Egypt but not here.

asperity
Your next door neighbour throws dog dirt over the fence into your garden. You complain but he persists in doing it. You complain to the police but they warn you about disturbing the peace and your neighbour continues throwing dog dirt over the fence. Eventually you lose patience and throw a tonne of horse manure over the fence into your neighbour's garden. Before you know it there's condemnation from the whole neighbourhood, the police are around and threaten you with court action and meanwhile your neighbour is still chucking dog dirt over the fence into your garden in full view of everyone else. Serves you right for being Israeli.
asperity
Here is a piece from the Grauniad (a paper not renowned for it's sympathy with Israel):  Grauniad  Egypt is trying to convince the nutcases in Hamas to stop being so stupid, although that may have something to do with the billions in aid from the EU, USA and IMF that Egypt is relying on to survive.
Cleopatra
Or maybe it's because israel is the next door neighbour to Egypt and Egypt is acting before anymore dogdirt is thrown over the fence?
observer
Asp, you forgot the bit about building an extension in the neighbour's garden!
asperity
The Palestinians have had over 60 years to come to an amicable settlement but have blocked each and every attempt by the International Community to achieve it. The world does not stand still, why should Israel put it's future on hold just because the Palestinians insist on acting like spoiled brats cutting off their noses to spite their faces? They have wasted 60 years during which time they could have been sharing in the success of Israel instead of which they have tried to prevent it.
wolfie
And still nothing on the building of settlements  Contrary to Palestinian-inspired hysteria about settlement expansion, the truth is only five settlements have been built since 1990.
