How odd.... I just popped out to check ours after reading that and our blue one has already been emptied today and the black one is still full so not happening here I'm glad to say.

They'd never admit it, but nationally there is less recycling sorting and processing capacity, and less demand for recycled materials, than the total that is being collected.

 

So someone is dumping at least some of it somewhere.

 

Councils also get financial incentives based soley on the weight of recycleables they collect, so they concentrate on heavy stuff like paper and glass - neither of which are particularly scarce or harmful to the environment - over tackling more harmful and more difficult to process wastes.
