observer
Anyone remember the sausage in school dinners? I recall getting similar bangers in the Army; but the shops don't seem to sell them nowadays?

Dizzy
You've lost me Obs.... how did your bangers differ from today's sausages Sorry but I'm not as old as you
observer
These are really fat sausages, with a really meaty taste; I recall having them on a North Sea Ferry once, so they seem to be around - but not in the s/markets, or indeed the butchers I've tried. fugtifino
Aspers may be able to help you out in identifying the really fat meaty sausages enjoyed by North Sea Ferry sailors. Never tried one meself.
observer
Presumably something to do with the suppliers, the British boats served them, but the Dutch boats served those hot dog type sausages.
Dizzy
Have you tried the 'Sausage Shop' in the market Obs. They sell big fat meaty ones of all varieties. If not try the venison ones they are rather nice
observer
Tried the venison - not as good as I expected though; I will continue the search.
fugtifino
They were too deer for me.
Bazj
Obs..... try "Porkinsons".... they taste really nice and have a high pork content compared to most other sausages.... really good on a barbeque!
observer
.. who sells them Baz?
fugtifino
By happy coincidence, there's a pack of Porkinson's sitting in my fridge for tonight's tea, I shall report back on their girth and meatiness. This means that Mrs fug has got them from either Tesco or Lidl.
Bazj
.. who sells them Baz? I know ASDA sell them and Tesco I think does...... not sure about Lidl though.... wouldn't they sell some obscure Belgian brand or something?
fugtifino
Well, I think the Porkinson's were the right kind of shape and size that obs is looking for, but I was a bit disappointed with the, er, delivery. And the skins were a bit industrial. 6/10 There's a butchers on King Edward Street, between the row of shops with Waterfield's on the corner and Kingsway lights which is a bit of a gem. It doesn't look much, but if you can catch them open it's worth a visit (allow at least half an hour 'cos he's a very chatty, lovely man). Makes his own sausages and cuts meat from the carcass to order - there's never anything on display. If you can get over the size, shape and price, you might find what you're looking for there. observer
Almost there: got two from Y&Gs in the market, but they were tomatoe. Very tasty but not quite it.
