observer
The decision of a top civil servant NOT to release letters from Tory Bliar, written to Bush in the lead up to the Iraq invasion - are NOT going to be released to the Chilcot Inquiry - as "it would not, be in the public interest". Errm, I think all those Mums who lost sons, all those wives that lost husbands and all those kids who lost a father - would be interested in knowing exactly why a PM ignored legal advise and committed us to a war. safeway56
Why can't Smoothiechops over-rule this mandarin ? After all, he's Prime Minister.
observer
Don't politicians all "P" in the same pot at the end of the day, and will cover for each other? The Inquiry has viewed the letters, so obviously consider them evidential to their findings, which I think will confirm what most of us thought all along. wolfie
Why can't Smoothiechops over-rule this mandarin ? After all, he's Prime Minister. Â A serving Prime Minister is not allowed to over-rule a decision about a previous Prime Minister.

observer
No, he would be "protecting" a previous PM. US Presidents have done it with their predecessors - a sort of immunity from prosecution for deeds done in office - on the basis, it could be them next.
