observer
No doubt a piece of political opportunism on the part of the LibDems, criticising the proposed toll on the Runcorn new bridge; but never the less, a fair point. IF YOU had to pay to cross at Runcorn, would you use it, or would you use Bridge Foot?
Peter T
The M6 Toll being a fine example. It was deserted when I went on it.
asperity
The M6 toll is a great idea, but I don't think they should get away with making us pay a toll on a new bridge.
Paul Kennedy
Worth noting that the original Runcorn Bridge will also have a toll on it, albeit that it will be taken off the main highway network and used for local traffic.
observer
Thought the idea was that ALL vehicle owners pay huge amounts of tax to the Government, in order to drive on ALL our roads (and bridges)?!

You're not supposed to think about that.
Paul Kennedy
As I recall the Bridge to Skye had a toll....until the locals protested and it was scrapped.....but then that is Scotland and they get a subsidy from the English.

Bazj
They also seem to have a Parliament that lives in the real world! in a sort of "I'm alright Jock" kind of way. They look after their own residents at the expense of those South of the Border. Something we in ENGLAND should aspire to
AdrianR
No I wouldnt and dont now. I use bridgefoot to avoid the traffic on the bridge, the very slow approaches and lights through the old town which defy the term "expressway"! The tolling woudl just make bridgfoot busier and thelwall so. Add to thsi the traffic avoidign manchester (congestion charge) then peak travel over thelwall will be fun.
