Observer II
Whilst true devolution could have been a means of levelling up throughout the UK, the fact that it was confined to the four nations (plus London); has meant that it has served as a vehicle for seperatism. The idea was taken up by Deputy PM Prescot, but instead of rolling it out to the Regions of England, he backed off when voters in the N/East rejected the idea. This left England resorting to a dog's breakfast of City Regions and elected Mayors; and fag packet ideas of a "Northern Power House". The pandemic has exposed the nonsense of some powers being devolved, such as the NHS; which is clearly a "National" Health Service, the "Nation" being the United Kingdom; so we now have strategic direction on fighting the pandemic divided four ways. 😠

Public Health is actively being used for Nationalist propaganda purposes except in England and Northern Ireland. The SNP are the worst of course and to help them get used to independence we should cut them out of the Barnett formula immediately in line with their wishes. Observer II
Correct - Independence has trumped everything by the SNP, leading to neglect of all other governance issues - poverty is now a major problem. The idea that they can go it alone is a total fiction and I'm surprised the Jocks are falling for it, or perhaps not surprised that it's support comes from youngsters. It's worth remembering that the reason they joined the Union in the first place was because they were broke. 😉
