Bazj
It seems to me that once you reach a certain level within the public sector, the "jobs for the boys" scenario seems to kick in and the high level public sector salaries (and pensions) that go with it. WARRINGTON and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have just appointed "a fireman" to the role of chairman. (Ok not so much a fireman but the current county fire officer and chief executive of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.) He is not in any way clinical in his background but importantly he does hold a senior position in local government It would appear that unless you do something pretty darn bad, the public sector old boys (and girls) network will keep you in a good job until you retire onto the gold plated top level pension scheme they all get allocated http://www.warrington-worldwide.co.uk/articles/19867/1/Fire-chief-to-take-over-as-hospital-chairman/Page1.html
