  1. Sad remainer. I've not noticed any difference.
  2. I have to drop someone off at the hospital near the mobile MRI scanner. Does anyone know what part of the hospital that is located? I suspect it is just round the corner from the A&E entrance, is that correct? TIA.
  3. Bury market is a major tourist attraction with coach trips from out of the region as well as visitors from the surrounding towns. Shopping habits have changed and markets struggle to compete with cheap supermarkets or Primark so I think an old style market in Warrington would struggle as we are not a poor town. They seem to work better in places like Bolton with their large numbers of "thrifty" people. Visit Wigan, StHelens, Northwich, Chester and you will see empty stalls and near deserted markets. Ours is more like a food court with a few stalls. I think the Cookhouse is fantastic but I am shocked by some of the non food stall's prices.
  4. There are definitely more around the town. They seem to have a bullish attitude to buying property too, just bang £20k on the asking price and outbid the locals.
  5. Totally agree. I must admit that I didn't think she had this sort of personality. It's obvious she has a political agenda and is following rule 1, never praise the Tories under any circumstances.
  6. I've noticed a couple of confusing road signs/markings on my drives around the town. Going north along the A49 past Matalan approaching the traffic lights. If you wanted to turn right down Longford Street, you would obviously get into the right hand lane, but the arrows in the road indicate that you can turn left of right in that lane. If you turned left, you would be crossing two other lanes going straight on. Weird. Secondly is opposite the police station. There is a road sign intended to direct traffic coming along the new road towards Bank Quay to turn left towards Widnes and Liverpool. Because of its position, it is actually in view of motorists coming along Wilson Patten St towards Bank Quay. For them, straight on is for Widnes/Liverpool. I wonder how many drivers unfamiliar with the town have turned left towards Gainsborough Road thinking they are heading west.
  7. Surely the app "thinks" I was there till midnight. What if an infected person went in there at 10 pm whereas I left at 1pm, would it ping me? As I said we have carried out 2 home tests, all negative.
  8. Just wondering if anyone knows how the NHS app works. Me and my missus each have the app on our phones. In the last few days we have not been out much, and when we have, it's been together. We had lunch out in a pub one day, each checked in about noon and left after an hour or so. A couple of days later, she got pinged. We both took the lateral flow tests which were negative, so reluctantly she deleted the app and ignored the request to isolate. Looking at the history on my app, it says where we checked in at the pub, but had us there till 2359 on that day. Are we supposed to check out? If not it seems like the app is seriously flawed.
  9. The fire hoses were connected to hydrants on the south side of the A57 so there were quite a few lay crossing the road. I imagine the road was closed to prevent vehicles driving over them. It was a thick black plume of smoke, could be seen some way off.
  10. There was a fire at the rear of a house in Woolston today near the Premier Inn. The A57 Manchester Road was closed for a couple of hours while it was tackled. I went from my house towards town no problem but I passed dozens of cars, lorries etc going in the opposite direction, turning round along the road when they discovered the closure. I checked the matrix signs along the route to see if there was any warning displayed-nothing apart from the usual "covid messages. If ever there was a time to use them to help out the road users, it was today. Just a simple "A57 closed at M6 J21" would suffice. What on earth are they for? On another issue, I was in a city in the south of England last week and used their buses. Each bus stop had the matrix signs like we used to have here. The next 3 buses to use that stop were displayed along with their eta, of which my bus was spot on. Come on Warrington, get your **** in gear.
  11. I've been in the market 3 times this week, buying something on each occasion. I was very impressed with it especially the food court, which I haven't used yet. I'm waiting for Cineworld to open and I'll have my dinner there before the pictures. It isn't like the old style markets like you will find in Bolton and Bury, with very cheap garments and cut price foodstuffs, it's more quality rather than quantity, and matches our towns demographic ideally. Hopefully it will kick start the development of Bridge St. It would be interesting to know how it has affected existing stores like Hancock and Wood, has it taken shoppers away or brought more passing trade.
  12. Finally got round to see the transporter bridge close up using Dizzy's link which was spot on. I didn't realise that footpath through Crosfields existed and it was great to see the factory and the river from a different perspective. The bridge itself was impressive close up and it would be a massive task to get it back to its former glory. Hope it is though. I intended to continue my journey on the other path returning via Slutchers Lane ,but the path was very overgrown and clumps of Giant Hogweed blocking the way so I backtracked. Well worth a visit.
  13. The recent South Korea outbreak was traced back to a single man who passed the virus on at a night club. So for some reason the S Koreans thought it OK for night clubs to open so soon.
  14. In 1965 all the old Warrington factories had gala days where their recreation grounds would stage large galas in summer. Obviously the bar would be open for the adults, and there would be slides, rides and games for the kids. I was at Rylands rec for one of these around 1965 and was having a go on a ride around the field on a line of open carriages with seats being pulled by a tractor.. It was part way through its circuit when I noticed adults running towards the tractor shouting and pointing to where I was sat. I looked down and saw a child aged about 10 under the wheels being rolled over and over. The tractor stopped and the adults took over and got us out of the way while the first aiders took over. I don't know what happened to him and have often wondered about it. Anyone else that was there that remembers it?
  15. I'm just amazed that no one has had Flu for 6 months.
