asperity
There is a statistical coincidence which apparently shows that you are just as likely to die from radiation allegedly emitted by the scanners as you are to die due to a terrorist bomb on your flight. The probability of dying from radiation from a body scanner and that of being killed in a terror attack are both about one in 30 million, making body scanners redundant. The thing that really puts me off flying is the pointless security now in place at airports. If a suicide bomber wanted to kill a load of innocent passengers he would only have to carry his bomb into the throng of people queuing up for the security checks before blowing himself - and everyone nearby - to smithereens. The more stringent the security, the bigger the queues and hence the target.
algy
Why would a suicide bomber bother going to an airport where there is a massive security prescence when it would be far easier to stand or sit in the middle of a crowd at anfield or old trafford or perhaps a theatre or such other public place?. wolfie
What's the difference between Basil Brush and a suicide bomber? A suicide bomber only goes BOOM once.
asperity
Very good Wolfie, treat the terrorist threat the way it should be treated
observer
For some strange reason, Al Queda & Co appear to want spectacular hits, hence crashing a jumbo into the Houses of Parliament etc; rather than taking out large numbers of folk; so the queue at the airport isn't really their bag. The normal terrorist approach is to go for soft targets, which then get hardened up with extra security, which in turn causes delays and disruption, and ultimately paranoia and inertia. At the end of the day, there is no such thing as 100% security, and in due course, some will slip through the net.
