observer
Just watched two sects of Christian Monks fighting outside the holy sepulchre in Jerusalem - wonder what happened to "turn the other cheek" - no wonder we keep having wars?! Egbert
I heard it on the radio first and then saw it on TV later. While I quite agree with your comment, I must admit I found the whole episode the funniest thing on TV all night. Perhaps it my twisted sense of humour! Goonerman
Was supposed to have commented on this earlier. It didn't look funny to me, just an ugly, shameful mess and total confusion. But, there's nothing new under the sun. The clergy and monks in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem have been bad boys for centuries., So much so that for the past few centuries the Muslims have had to hold the keys of the former church! But to make it relevant to why there are wars Obbs; smacks of desperation. Those guys couldn't win a fart in a gasworks!
robot
The ironic thing is that these squabbles seem to have happened every year for the past four or five years- perhaps its a "World Series" of some kind- and next year there will be a rematch? heres last years.. http://directionstoorthodoxy.org/n/rival_monks_clash_at_bethlehem.html and fighting took place in 2006 heres a discussion about the 2005 battle http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=145714&page=3 and 2002- when the monks' battle was called off due to a pitch invasion: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/fierce-fighting-at-bethlehem-church-650294.html
